Design Directions S/S 16

Design Directions for Spring/Summer 2016 call out to the resourceful and mindful consumer for unique product stories that last in a transient world. Ingenious minds seek to renew nature’s improbable materials, extend the functionality of design, and trace the softening of technology.

Combining an innovative approach and inspirational, future-focused ideas across all sectors of design – home and industrial, architecture, fashion, transport and consumer electronics – our Design Directions highlight three key trends for S/S 16 product design development: Renew, Extend and Trace.

Renew S/S 2016
Renew S/S 2016
Relief from connectivity and stimulation drives Renew’s calm, understated direction, with a focus on Earth’s natural materials. Less raw and more tranquil than its predecessor Unearth A/W 15-16, Renew nurtures and further harnesses nature’s materials for unique and advanced product stories.

Renew carries influence with the luxury and specialty sectors and the mindful consumer seeking wellbeing in provenance and material innovation.

Versatility and sustainability underpin Extend's youthful and practical mentality. Developing from Intervene A/W 15-16, simple solutions for everyday problems are discovered through unconventional material applications and approaches to manufacturing.

Imbued with functionality and appropriate for a range of product industries, Extend allows for personalisation and modularity, appealing to a busy consumer seeking uncomplicated solutions, both at home and on the go.

Trace S/S 2016
Trace S/S 2016
Trace S/S 2016
An illusionary direction defined by shifting light, Trace is underpinned by a gentle ambience that reflects a quiet sense of wonder. With a calmer, more ethereal atmosphere than our A/W 15-16 direction React, understated engineering hides and softens technology, while temporal design offers transformative qualities.

The focus on lightweight materials emphasises cutting-edge innovation, appealing to industrial sectors and a forward-thinking consumer looking to seamlessly embed technology into their homes and lives.

Colour S/S 2016
Evolving from our Spring/Summer 2016 Colour Spectrum, we examine the key colours for our S/S 16 Product Design Directions – Renew, Extend and Trace.

Drawn from nature, calming neutrals are balanced by clean primary tones in the Renew colour story. Synthetic hues reflect the mixed material applications seen in Extend for an energetic, youthful aesthetic. Liquid metallics and iridescent films inspire the Trace colour palette, with almost fluorescent accents emphasising the importance of light.
