This Week’s Love: The Ice Book

Inspired by pop-up books, husband-and-wife team Davy and Kristin McGuire created a travelling show that incorporates paper craft, film, puppet theatre and interactive light projection into a small pop-up book stage.

The miniature performance combines pre-cinematic optical illusions with a projection behind a paper screen to create 3D figures and scenes. Shadows and light play on paper, mesmerising audiences.

With the potential for a full-scale model, The Ice Book is a great example of how new and old technologies can combine for contemporary ways of storytelling.
