Finding your next job just got easier thanks to Google's jobs search feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
Google for Jobs, which launched in the US across Google's app and desktop/mobile sites last week, uses machine learning to help organise and sort data by clustering similar jobs. The feature streamlines the user experience by grouping all relevant listings and removing duplicates.
If a user searches "catering jobs in NYC", for example, Google displays a preview of all listings collected from job sites including LinkedIn, Monster and Glassdoor, as well as individual company websites. Users can filter by criteria such as location, employer, date of listing and whether the job is full-time, part-time or an internship. The platform also shows users how long their commute would be for each job with Google Maps.
"It's inspiring to see how AI is starting to bear fruit that people can actually taste," wrote Google chief executive Sundar Pichai on the company's blog. "There is still a long way to go before we are truly an AI-first world, but the more we can work to democratise access to the technology – both in terms of the tools people can use and the way we apply it – the sooner everyone will benefit."
A Google spokesperson said the company hopes to roll out the service to other regions in the coming year, but it has "no plans to announce at this time".
