Pet owners are seeking high-tech solutions to help them look after their animals, with subtle and sleek design increasingly moving devices towards unobtrusive, wearable solutions.
Kyon, a GPS-embedded collar, is designed to look and feel like a traditional collar, but is equipped with mobile technology for pet-location tracking. The collar also includes an LED display to enhance pet-owner communication, real-time temperature sensors, ultrasound emissions to stop nuisance barking, a water sensor to prevent drowning, a rechargeable battery and pacifier technology to keep pets calm.
Similar devices include Inupathy – a wearable harness that monitors dogs’ feelings (happy, excited, relaxed) via heart rate monitors; Buddy by Squeaker – a multicoloured LED light-up collar designed to keep pets visible and safe; and PetPace – which tracks vitals such as temperature, pulse, respiration, activity, calories and posture, notifying owners of any abnormalities.
Growing consumer interest in evolving pet-tech solutions is high: 95% of US pet owners consider their pets members of the family, according to a survey from the Harris Poll, and nearly 69% of millennials say they are likely to invest in high-tech ways to keep tabs on their pets.
