Leading product designers, manufacturers and distributors are set to gather at creative retail exhibition Top Drawer from September 11-13 at London’s Olympia centre.
This year’s event will showcase products across home, gifting, fashion and craft categories and promises to unpack the most pressing industry issues at its Academy Live sessions. Meanwhile, the Trends Bar area will allow attendees to collect the freshest insights and identify breakthrough ideas across the design sector by chatting with others and perusing the materials on display. Here are our pre-show recommendations:
- Retail Trends Uncovered: Experts at panel session Future Retail Unzipped will discuss the must-know retail trends and consumer motivations for 2017, covering ideas on intimacy, experimental ‘beta brandscapes’ and the rise of exploratory experiences. Katie Baron, global head of retail at Stylus, will open the conversation with a keynote talk. Panellists include Alexander Wells-Greco, head of visual merchandising at Harrods, and Philippa Prinsloo, head of design for home at John Lewis.
- Meet the Wild Cards: Today’s consumers are breaking free from age and gender norms and building new niches, based on their attitudes, behaviours and values. Kate Johnson, assistant editor for consumer lifestyle at Stylus, will reveal the most important emerging tribes in her presentation, How to Win Wild-Card Consumers.
- Eco-Conscious Credentials: The Eco Trail section, curated by British architect and TV presenter Oliver Heath, will identify exhibitors with strong ethical stories behind products. Transparency is no longer just a ‘nice-to-have’ – brands must act as allies to those demanding greater respect for the people and places affected by purchases, as explored in Next-Gen Activists.
