Seeking a share of the expanding US meal kit market, which is forecast to experience tenfold growth over the next five years globally (Technomic, 2016), The Hershey Company has sealed a deal to bring its branded dessert recipes to consumer kitchens.
The US chocolate giant has partnered with online meal kit retailer Chef’d to add its Hershey’s Kitchens and Scharffen Berger chocolate-based recipes to the company’s growing meal kit offering. This will enable consumers to purchase all the portioned ingredients needed for a specific dessert, such as Hershey’s Kitchens’ recipe for Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies or Scharffen Berger’s Flourless Chocolate Raspberry Torte and Unbelievable Fudgy Brownies. The deal is a first for Chef’d, marking the launch of a dessert category.
“The rise of the meal kit market is undeniable – boxes provide unprecedented convenience while maintaining the engaging experience of home cooking,” said Carrie Lathrop, e-commerce and emerging channels manager at Hershey in a press release.
