Craft Beer Meets Afternoon Tea

Extra
The Modern Pantry

London restaurant The Modern Pantry has launched a new take on afternoon tea, pairing fusion bites with craft beer and specialty teas. The six-course sweet and savoury menu brings together Kiwi chef Anna Hansen’s trademark fusion of Asian and antipodean ingredients with a sprinkling of seasonal British produce.

Each dish is paired with either a small-batch craft beer from London breweries such as Canopy Beer Co. and Partizan Brewing Ltd, or an aged, single-batch tea from London’s Lalani & Co. The Modern Pantry says the teas are served at cooler temperatures to extract optimum flavour. The menu itself includes savoury combinations such as gochugaru & spring onion scones, pulled pork, umeboshi mayonnaise and fennel kimchee, and sweets like chocolate, peanut butter & miso caramel shortbread.

Stylus covered contemporary and creative twists on this traditional British pastime earlier this year – see The New Afternoon Tea. For more on the surging popularity of tea, see our Trends in Tea: Update. For more on craft beer, see Cult of Craft: Beer & Millennials.
