Designed by Northumbria University graduate Lewis Power, the interactive Léon light encourages new gestural behaviours for controlling illumination.
The user adjusts the intensity of the wall-leaning light by lifting or lowering their hands above a horizontal bar, which rests on top of the light’s legs. The bar houses proximity sensors that control the hue and brightness of the light according to the user’s movements.
Removing the conventional on/off switch or dimmer dial brings a more intangible experience to controlling light. The hand gestures reflect the immateriality of light, and give the user a more connected relationship and sensitivity to the lighting.
