Glow-In-the-Dark Dining Experience

Dining experiences that immerse consumers in multisensory ways have been opening across the board, with restaurants and pop-up eateries becoming increasingly inventive. Atlanta pop-up Nakamura.ke epitomises this thinking with its glow-in-the-dark ramen concept.

A menu of luminous, multicoloured ramen and glowing shochu and sake cocktails made from natural ingredients is served in an intimate setting, seating six people at a time. Diners must adhere to a strict 30-minute time limit, inspired by Tokyo's high-frequency ramen restaurants.

During supper, diners are further drawn into the spectacle via elements of Japanese folklore brought to life by actors who interact with the guests, adding a narrative structure to the meal.

The project is the brainchild of avant-garde Atlanta design studio Zoo As Zoo, which has collaborated with London-based experiential design company Bompass & Parr to bring the idea to life. Launching at the end of January, Nakamura.ke will run for two weeks in Atlanta before touring to Los Angeles, London, Miami, New York, Tokyo and Seoul.

As the experiential dining scene becomes oversaturated, food brands and restaurants will need to increasingly think outside the box to add something unexpected that brings true value to the table.
