Raw Truth: Plastic Exhibition

Raw Truth: Plastic, A Journey from Source to Solution

The global impact of plastic pollution is being exposed in a new exhibition at London’s Royal Geographical Society called Raw Truth: Plastic – A Journey from Source to Solution.

Raw Truth uses powerful photography and video footage to shine a light on the dangerous omnipresence of plastic and the immense damage it’s inflicting on the planet. It depicts the journey of Melinda Watson, founder of UK-based sustainable development charity Raw Foundation, who travelled to trace the “plastic footprint” in some of the most remote landscapes in Africa – from Cairo to Cape Town.

Watson and her team crossed over 17,000km and recorded every 100km, documenting polluted water sources including rivers, lakes and beaches, as well as affected communities. By capturing the effects on extraordinary and remote landscapes, the project aims to raise awareness about the true extent of plastic pollution and inspire positive action worldwide.

With initiatives such as #RefuseTheStraw trending on Twitter and in bars and restaurants across the world, consumers are becoming more mindful of the issues surrounding plastic waste. This is driving consumer demand for more recycled, recyclable, biodegradable and non-toxic materials.

Raw Truth runs until June 14 2017. The exhibition will be complemented by a series of talks and panel discussions.
