Sochi's New Digs

Extra

By 2014, US-based hotel chain Marriott will open three hotels in Sochi, a resort city on south Russia’s Black Sea coast, in time for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The group will open the 398-room Marriott Krasnaya Polyana Hotel and 345-room Courtyard by Marriott Sochi Plaza Hotel by 2013. A third hotel, the JW Marriott Sochi Golf Resort, will open in early 2014.

Sochi is currently undergoing development on a massive scale, facilitated by the Russian government’s tourism investment programme, which set aside 2.47 bn rubles (roughly £50m) in investment for 2011 to 2018. UK-based lifestyle brand, Extreme, is set to brand Sochi as an extreme sports destination to rival the best European snow and surf resorts. For more on the resort’s transformation, and other destinations being targeted by international hospitality brands, read the New Destinations report.
