CharityWait App: Donate to Skip the Queue

Extra
CharityWait

A new smartphone app called CharityWait enables diners in the US to skip restaurant queues in exchange for making a charitable donation.

On arrival at participating restaurants, diners are automatically added to a digital list of guests who are also waiting to be seated. The app then sends a text message to the user's smartphone specifying an estimated wait time, how many groups are ahead of them, and a prompt enquiring whether they would like to donate to a charity in order to skip the queue.

If this option is chosen, guests are taken to a checkout page to make their donation before being shown to the next available table. The amount depends on the size of the party and the wait time, but donations are predominantly around $10-35, and given to a charity of the restaurant's choice.

Initiatives that encourage conscious consumption are proving popular with consumers concerned with balanced living and social responsibility. Responding to this mindset, savvy brands are devising ways for individuals to adopt more guilt-free modes of consumption.
