Several of the season’s emerging trends were alive and well at Isabel Marant, where she put her own signature spin on the current mood for all things 1980s.
There were easy tweed coats and slouchy throw-on jackets, teamed with cropped PVC pants or thigh-high mini skirts, all ticking next winter’s big junior trend boxes.
Elsewhere, it was all chunky knits with belted Aran sweaters and unexpected argyle jacquards teamed with skinny zebra-patterned pants.
High-necked ruffled blouses were right on the early 80s button, along with ruched and draped detailing and a stretch satin one-shouldered top with matching second-skin pants looking like something straight out of the finale in the 1978 movie Grease.
Exaggerated shoulderlines have been a recurring theme in Paris for A/W 16/17, and here they were balanced in a more commercial way with cinched waistlines – another trend we are seeing on the Paris runways.
And to complete the look, there were fishnets and skin-patterned buckled pixie boots with more than a nod to good-girl-gone-bad punky reference points.
