Fenix NTM (Nano Tech Matt) is an intelligent material that creates hyper-durable surfaces that are soft to touch, anti-scratch, anti-smudge, and self-healing. Developed for interior design applications by Italian manufacturer Arpa Industriale, the material possesses several high-performance surface properties.
Created using nanotechnology, the thermo-laminate is composed of craft paper impregnated with thermosetting resins, allowing it to thermally heal any superficial micro scratches. A damp paper towel is simply placed over the damaged area and passed over with a hot iron to erase the mark. In addition, it is highly resistant to abrasion, rubbing and dry heat.
It can also withstand stress, acid-based solvents and household reagents, and is hydro-repellent and mould-proof. Enhanced anti-bacterial properties mean it is hygienic and easy to clean. With low light reflectivity, its surface is extremely matt and opaque – an appealing aesthetic feature for designers.
Nest tables and seating by Stockholm-based design studio Form Us With Love are among the latest products to use the material. Since its development, it has been used in a vast range of interior design applications, including bathrooms, kitchens, worktops, doors, walls, furniture and fittings, as well as splashbacks in hospitality and healthcare settings. Its versatility makes it a valid alternative to materials such as glass, with the added advantage of easy workability.
