SXSW Vision 2 Venture Winners
The latest addition to US film, music and tech festival South by Southwest’s stable of events, SXSW V2V (Vision to Venture) brought together multiple industries looking to explore the creative spark that drives entrepreneurial innovation.
Held in Las Vegas from August 11-14, the 1,500 attendees were largely made up of people involved in start-ups and investors working across technology, music, film, fashion, health, education and sustainability.
Alongside the conference talks, industry mentoring sessions and networking opportunities, the event also acted as a showcase for emerging start-ups via V2Venture’s pitch competition. Here are the winners across eight categories:
Culture and Entertainment – Zazoo: An online tool for music artists, Zazoo transforms videos into an immersive experience by embedding a mini-app that adds tour dates, lyrics, sharing functions and facts, helping the artist to engage the audience, generate revenues and increase social currency.
Health – SoundFest: An app and earpiece, SoundFest provides hearing assistance via smartphones and tablets at one-tenth the cost of a hearing aid.
Mobile and Tablet – Tipbit: This online business intelligence tool boosts productivity by instantly showing you information on the people, documents, emails and meetings most relevant to the task at hand.
Innovative World – Glowing Plant: The first crowdfunding campaign for synthetic biology launched on Kickstarter, it raised four times the amount required with the promise of developing a glowing plant that would provide sustainable natural light.
Best Bootstrap – Helios Bars: Another Kickstarter product development campaign, the company offers two handlebar designs that turn any bike into a smart bike by integrating LED lights, Bluetooth, GPS tracking and an LED colour-changing speedometer.
Speed Pitch – Handii: Online platform and app Handii applies the UberCab model of matching a service to the location of a user, but in this case, it hires a registered and rated handyman.
Education – LightSail: Aimed at K-12 students, this is an interactive and measurable iPad-based literacy solution accessible by both students and teachers.
