NYFW S/S 13: Thakoon Addition
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) kicked off last week (September 6), marking the beginning of fashion month and the unveiling of the Spring/Summer 2013 collections.
With the first couple of days of NYFW focused on boutique and emerging labels, many high-profile designers choose to present their diffusion lines during this time. One such example is Thai-American designer Thakoon Panichgul and his diffusion line Thakoon Addition, which offers youthful, mid-range womenswear with a similar aesthetic to his modern, feminine ready-to-wear line.
Stripes, ditsy florals and an abundance of skirts and dresses made for a fresh and summery collection, while relaxed styling kept the overall look contemporary and covetable. Classic cool-girl staples like the biker jacket were reimagined in alternative fabrics such as patchwork knitwear and sweatshirt-style cotton, while abstract star prints and stripes in soft blues and red were a playful nod to Americana.
Broderie Anglaise was a key fabrication for Thakoon Addition, with the delicate fabric receiving a dose of cool with patchwork denim, drawstrings and flirtatious silhouettes all part of the mix.
NYFW runs until September 13 2012
