Having observed the full spectrum of innovations at CES 2017, Stylus notes one interesting evolution in home appliances – the way in which design is evolving towards products that blend seamlessly into the domestic interior.
Following the success of its Serif TV, designed in collaboration with French design duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Samsung showcased its new Lifestyle TV at CES this year. Designed to look like a piece of art hanging on the wall when in standby mode, the screen is surrounded by a slim frame and digital bevelled mat-board mount. In the above image, two TV screens are pictured, but it’s difficult to distinguish between the genuine art and the digital displays.
With consumers’ lifestyles becoming more nuanced and interior spaces evolving to serve different functions, this design indicates a movement towards dual-purpose products that can adapt to different interior styles.
The screen itself uses a 4K display, and while details of the price and power use when in standby mode are unavailable at this stage, Samsung expects the product to go to market in 2017. The Lifestyle TV has received a Best of Innovation award from the CTA as well as a Popular Mechanics’ Editors’ Choice award.
