Amino: Matching Patients with Doctors

Amino app

San Franciscan find-a-doctor app Amino has raised $25m to match patients with the doctors best qualified to help them.

The healthcare platform enables users to search for a medical expert according to their condition and health insurance via Amino’s app or website. The company then ranks and suggests doctors based on the likelihood of them performing a certain procedure – such as a Caesarean, for instance – as well as their location and an analysis of insurance claims and medical billing records, rather than user ratings or availability of appointments.

Alongside the service for individual consumers, which was launched 18 months ago, co-founder and chief executive David Vivero announced last week that the service will also work with health insurers, integrated delivery networks, employers and provider groups.

“We believe everyone – whether they’re a consumer, doctor, hospital, employer or payer – should have access to the same information about healthcare access, cost and quality,” states an announcement on Amino’s blog.

Companies that obtain Amino Plus for Employers acquire, alongside the access, Amino premium accounts for all of their workers. Employees can consequently search for doctors within the system, book their appointments via the app, and receive cost estimations according to their insurance plans. Physicians and hospitals with Amino for Providers can be part of the project and are trackable in the network, enabling their patients to enjoy the benefits of the app, too.
