Grow Your Own

Central Saint Martins graduate I-Wen Lee explores our emotional attachment to furniture through a home-growing process. Her project, Growing Stool, provides an environment to generate furniture that evolves over time. Mimicking the formation of stalactites, Lee pours resin or glass fibre into funnels that, over time, form the legs of a stool.

By questioning our enormous mass-produced industry, Lee seeks to slow down the manufacturing process and encourage designers to build relationships with objects.
