Florida’s Culinary-Themed Hotel

The Epicurean

A new hotel designed to appeal to food lovers has opened in the Tampa Bay region of Florida.

The Epicurean Hotel – part of global hotel giant Marriott's Autograph Collection and created in collaboration with local restaurant Bern's Steak House – will offer accommodation alongside a range of culinary experiences.

Facilities at the $35m hotel include a restaurant, patisserie, fine wine and spirit shop and 40-seater culinary theatre that will host food-focused seminars. Events already scheduled include talks on the 'History of the Cocktail' and 'Sustainable Winemaking & Seafood'.

In-room pantries are stocked with gourmet goodies, including chocolate, prosciutto and goat's cheese, alongside suggested paired bottles of wine.

As reported in our coverage of last year's Boutique Hotel Summit, hotel companies are diversifying their offerings to target niche consumer groups – from families to millennials – in response to changing consumer lifestyles. For more on the rise of food as cultural capital, see Global Food Love-In.
