CES 2016: LG Rollable Screen

LG's rollable OLED display

On our first day at CES, Stylus was one of the few to preview the latest OLED display technology from Korean brand LG.

The 18-inch Rollable Screen is paper thin and exceptionally flexible – a significant development for screen technology. Although at prototype stage, it still possesses clear and luminous display capabilities. During the demonstration, the screen was easily rolled and bent into convex, concave and s-shaped formations.

A release date is yet to be confirmed, but LG foresees endless applications for this innovation. Adaptable, ultra-slim and lightweight, it will transform interface and screen technology. We can imagine potential adaptations from screen wraps for personal devices to use in transport or wearables.

Flexible screens have been difficult to develop due to issues with durability and image distortion, but LG may well have found the solution. See our Wondrous Response report for more.
