Marriott’s Wireless Charging Stations

Marriott's wireless charging station

A recent survey by travel website Hotel Chatter found that wi-fi is the most important hotel amenity for guests, cited by 94% of respondents. Addressing this demand for constant connectivity, global hotel chain Marriott has teamed up with US tech company Kube Systems to provide wireless phone-charging stations in 29 of its hotel lobbies across the US.

The sophisticated cubes use Qi wireless technology to charge up to six phones at a time. To use the system, guests need to rest their smartphones on a transmitter. For those that cannot be wirelessly charged, USB cables can be used to connect the devices.

The initiative has been conceived with business travellers in mind, enabling them to carry fewer chargers with them while in transit. This idea of lighter travel is echoed in Future Service: Responsive Hotels, where operators are providing travellers with rentable remote wardrobes and gym kits.

Meanwhile, Marriott also launched 'teleporters' last month, allowing users to enjoy a virtual vacation. See Marriott's 4D Travel Experience for more on this, as well as Future Service: High-Tech Hospitality, which explores ways in which hotels are using new technologies to engage tech-savvy consumers.
