Cult Label Fiorucci’s Retro Relaunch

Cult Italian fashion label Fiorucci is making a much-awaited comeback in the form of a pop-up hosted by Selfridges department store in London. 

The brand first gained popularity in New York in the 1970s, with celebrity fans ranging from musical icons Debbie Harry and Madonna to artists Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.

Founder Elio Fiorucci was also credited with inventing stretch denim and creating the first immersive experience to be associated with a store – the New York City flagship was even nicknamed the ‘daytime Studio 54’ (after the nightclub) on account of its glamorous visitors and theatrical interior. 

Revived under new ownership – British former Knickerbox founder Janie Schaffer and her husband, film editor Stephen Schaffer, took it over in 2015 – the much-loved label is making its comeback with an archive-inspired collection consisting of cherub-adorned graphic tees, slogan sweats and customisable denim jackets.
