The Perceptor: Deceptive Furniture

Amsterdam-based designer Tieme Rietveld has worked with arts production group Codex Inferno to produce the Perceptor, an optically deceptive cabinet inspired by the Transformers action series.

Using graphic angular patterns, the cabinet’s flat form is made to appear maze-like and faceted, as if composed of interlocking shapes. The project demonstrates how tonal gradients can be used to mimic 3D forms.
