Landmark Patagonia Warehouse Hotel

Named a Chilean national monument in 1996, this December, the former Bories Cold Storage Plant will debut as The Singular, Patagonia – the region’s newest luxury retreat – following a 10-year renovation. It is likely to benefit from the growing adventure tourism market, which has seen an increasing number of travellers taking trips to the world’s most extreme locations and, with the help of Virgin Galactic, possibly beyond.

The plant used to process millions of sheep and their byproducts, which were subsequently distributed to the European markets – but the industry collapsed in the 1980s. Chilean interior design company Enrique Concha & Co collaborated with local architect Pedro Kovacic to carefully juxtapose elements of the original industrial structure, with a modern wing of 57 guestrooms.

Set on a 100-acre plot overlooking the dramatic Fjord of Last Hope in Southern Chile, the property celebrates the former factory’s historic past in an on-site museum. It also provides the opportunity to explore a landscape previously inaccessible to the public.
