FIT Museum’s Great Designers Exhibition

The Museum at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is launching a new exhibition called The Great Designers, Part One – the first of two consecutive exhibitions featuring garments from the museum’s permanent archive collection.

The exhibition will include archive pieces by Miuccia Prada and Oscar de la Renta, as well as new acquisitions, such as a 1980s metallic bustier and skirt by Thierry Mugler, and a black coat-dress by Alexander McQueen for Givenchy.

The exhibition coincides with the museum's new book release, The Great Designers: Fashion’s Hall of Fame A-Z. Published and distributed by Taschen, the book will debut in spring 2012 and features photographs of the permanent collection, as well as extensive essays and biographies exploring the history of fashion, fashion museums and exhibitions.

The Great Designers, Part Two will display an additional 50 pieces when it opens in May 2012. Part One opens on November 29 2011.
