BMW BART Subway Trains

DesignworksUSA, BMW’s in-house US design subsidiary, will style the interior and exterior the newly commisioned carriages for the San Francisco Bay Area’s BART, the fifth largest light-rail train system in the US.

The new carriages, called The Fleet of the Future, will replace the existing vehicles that have been in service since the line’s inception in 1972 and is used by 350,000 people a day. DesignworksUSA believes the new trains will help attract new passengers.

This BMW subsidiary has become renowned for several high profile unusual projects. The team was responsible for designing the BMW-Sauber F1 Hospitality Suite – a mobile hospitality suite for VIPs and F1 officials. They also partnered with coffee chain Starbucks to create the slick Sirena Espresso Machine.

The new Bart trains will be launched in 2017.
