Cause Collections: LGBTQA Support

Fashion brands are creating limited-edition capsule collections to align themselves with a cause. With a popular dating app launching its first clothing line and a global fashion house partnering with a cult retailer, this year sees a slew of companies directly supporting LGBTQA issues.

  • Grindr: This August, gay dating app Grindr launched its first fashion collection, Grindr Varsity. Coinciding with the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 29-piece collection includes various athletic-wear items like sweatshirts adorned with a gold outline of a man’s face, and underwear printed with the letter 'G', similar to the app’s logo. Designed in partnership with NYC-based design studio Print All Over Me, all proceeds from sales will be donated to Athlete Ally, a charity that benefits LGBTQA athletes.
  • Calvin Klein x Opening Ceremony: Resurrecting a seminal 90s campaign, Calvin Klein partnered with NYC-based fashion brand Opening Ceremony to release a graphic T-shirt collection. Each of the four shirts is printed with an iconic black and white photo of supermodel Kate Moss from its 1993 underwear campaign. All proceeds from sales will go to AIDS research charity Amfar.
  • Earlier this summer, Opening Ceremony released another capsule collection for New York’s Pride Month. The six-piece collection (comprising five graphic T-shirts and a hat) pays homage to several historic NYC gay bars, with their logos screen-printed onto each piece. All proceeds from the collection go to the Pulse Victims Fund, a charity supporting families of victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting.
