Engaging Challenge-Seekers: Rule Your Room Kit

New York City-based DIY technology company LittleBits has released the Rule Your Room Kit, an easy-to-use platform of electronic building blocks challenging tweens (aged 8-13) to design touch-activated inventions to protect their valuables or prank their friends.

Currently available for pre-order for $99.95, each kit contains seven Lego-like pieces that snap together to create a circuit board. These can be combined with any number of the kit’s 19 other accessories and components – including a battery, mechanical arm and micro-USB cable – to create interactive gadgets. An accompanying booklet explains the basics of engineering and includes instructions for eight pre-designed projects.

Users can download the Invent app for inspiration when designing their own unique gadgets, or to see projects that others in the LittleBits community have made. The app also allows young inventors to participate in monthly challenges, for a chance to have their designs featured on the site and to earn badges and bragging rights.
