Central Saints Martins’ BA Fashion Show

BA design students at London fashion and design school Central Saint Martins debuted their final collections last night as part of the graduate fashion show, in partnership with French haircare brand L’Oreal Professionel.

Womenswear designer Mao Usami – one of three students awarded the Grand Prix LVMH scholarship in 2012 – was named the winner of the L’Oreal Professionel Award for her sportswear-inspired collection. Looks akin to retro American high-school gym kits with oversized tartan pieces and grungy lace made for a nostalgic, fun aesthetic. Narae Park (womenswear) and Giacomo Cavallari (menswear) were runners up, coming second and third respectively.

The judging panel included fashion editor for British newspaper the Independent Alexander Fury, and UK-based designers Roksanda Ilincic and Joe Casely-Hayford. The awards themselves were presented by Phoebe Philo, creative director of French luxury label Celine, while British designer Giles Deacon was master of ceremony. All four of them are CSM alumni.

We’ll be covering both the CSM and Royal Academy graduate shows in full, with reports going live next week.
