Festival Beauty’s Glimmering Hair Dyes
As festival season continues, beauty inspiration is packed with bold pops of colour and glints of shimmer. Smart haircare brands are offering younger consumers temporary dye products that encourage creative application and self-expression. We highlight the key innovators.
- Pigments for Darker Tresses: A new breed of effective, temporary colour products are providing safer, non-bleaching solutions for individuals with darker hair.
Cult US brand Limecrime’s Unicorn Hair Star Mist range includes bright and pastel dyes that work on all hair colours. The mists coat each hair strand with a pearlescent sheen, creating an otherworldly glow reminiscent of the S/S 19 catwalk beauty trend, Giambattista Valli’s Glitter Girls.
Users are also provided with a stencil to create colourful hair tattoos in different shapes, such as hearts or clouds. This encourages experimentation among younger consumers, who can mix the different hues and patterns together. It also allows this pivotal cohort to express their creativity and individuality – 87% of US Gen Zers consider themselves artistic (JWT, 2017).
- Multifunctional Appeal: In March 2019, US brand Bumble and Bumble launched Bb Shimmer – a holographic highlighting gel for the hair, body and face. The sheer pink and gold multipurpose formula can be applied with the fingertips. Users can also build up their preferred coverage to create a sheer or intense look.
- Protective Haircare: American haircare brand Shea Moisture’s Sugarcane Extract and Meadowfoam Seed Silicone Free Strobe Shine Spray aims to tame unruly tresses. The mist contains sugarcane extract, meadowfoam seed oil and marshmallow root to combat humid conditions and soften the hair. But the product has another effect: the mist contains shimmer, meaning consumers can be expressive while protecting their hair.
