Pre-Fall 2013: Alexander Wang

Following the recent news that Alexander Wang will be replacing Nicholas Ghesquiere as Balenciaga’s creative director from Autumn/Winter 2013, all eyes were on the designer’s Pre-Fall collection this week.

Using a predominantly grey and neutral colour palette, Wang used origami-inspired draping and folds to modern effect, making for a slick collection designed with the urban woman in mind.

Wang’s unwavering interest in varsity sportswear came through the tracksuit-style trousers and voluminous-sleeved sweatshirts, both of which were given a contemporary twist via silk-wool fabrications and carefully executed pleats. Fairisle-patterned knitwear and structured, boxy leather backpacks provided a retro edge of nostalgia while still working with Wang’s sharp aesthetic.
