Ingo Maurer: Biotope

German lighting designer Ingo Maurer’s latest creation, Biotope, uses lush green to create a high-impact installation inspired by nature and plantlife.

Standing four metres in height and fabricated from natural sponge, Maurer’s piece emits light from within its cavernous structure. The exterior is peppered with hand-made insects, each of which has a uniquely colourful, sometimes iridescent finish that stands out against the backdrop of vibrant green.

Maurer’s Biotope and Johnny B. Butterfly pendant lights were both exhibited at Spazio Krizia during Milan 2011.
