By rediscovering their passions and taking a proactive approach to their health, those aged 45 and over are entering an age of empowerment, a study by Facebook’s insights division has found.
Facebook teamed up with London-based brand consultancy Sparkler and surveyed people aged 45 to 70 in France, Italy and the UK to identify their attitudes towards ageing. Earlier this week, Facebook IQ released the first-round results of the study. Highlights include:
- Pursuing Passions: Some 61% of respondents said that they are still passionate about their careers and see no reason to retire. The group also has more money and time now than ever before, allowing three in five to pursue their goals and passion projects.
- From Saving to Spending: Half of those surveyed said they want to spend their money while they can enjoy it. Around nine in 10 (89%) reportedly use technology to help manage their finances and spend money in new ways.
- Embracing Technology: When it comes to love for technology, these empowered consumers are on par with millennials. When asked if modern technology had made their lives better, 75% of 45- to 70-year-olds agreed that it had, compared to 77% of millennials.
- Active Ageing: Nearly eight in 10 (79%) reported that they eat well and exercise regularly. One in five already track or plan to track their fitness through apps or devices.
