Forkit: Healthy Habits App


US-based recipe-sharing website Kitchenbowl has developed a new app to encourage consumers to regularly create healthy meals at home.

The Kitchenbowl site already allows visitors to post and share step-by-step videos on how to make their favourite dishes. However the new app, Forkit, allows users to set personal goals such as losing weight, improving cooking skills or spending more mealtimes with family. They can choose to ‘Fork’ their recipe by sharing a photo of the completed dish to earn ‘badges’ and points. These can be earned in a number of ways, such as by cooking for five consecutive days, or by constructing a dish that the user has never made before. Complex dishes accrue more points.

Tech tools and apps that assist individuals with reaching their health and wellness goals are gaining traction with consumers. Helsinki-based You-app, promoted by well-known British chef Jamie Oliver, nudges users towards healthier daily habits through ‘micro-actions’, as discussed in the Rebranding Health part of our New Food Frontiers Industry Trend.
