In the Moon, a picture book by French graphic artist Fanette Mellier, documents the lunar cycle throughout November 2013 – the month the book was published.
Using the eight-colour printing process, the book comprises 30 minimal prints representing the gradual progression of the moon. The crescents and circles in pale white shades are overprinted with dark inky hues and coloured tints that gradually blend for subtle effects. Some prints are gently radiant because of these techniques.
This book is a development from a similar larger-scale series of prints Mellier had previously exhibited in 2010. For more examples of the potent effect of colour in print, see Anish Kapoor: Zumtobel Annual Report and our Layering Colour report.
