Suzy Snooze: Sleep Assistant

Suzy Snooze

London-based tech parenting company Bleep Bleeps has released the Suzy Snooze – a baby monitor, sleep trainer and nightlight designed to help children get to sleep faster and learn to stay in bed.

Created in partnership with British online parenting network Mumsnet, as well as Colin Espie – neuroscientist and chief medical officer behind sleep-improvement programme Sleepio – the Suzy Snooze helps children find a sleep routine with the aid of patterns of light and sound.

Elegant yet playfully designed, Suzy’s anthropomorphised face, name and character helps babies and young children learn healthy routines as early as possible. Hypnotic audio sequences and soothing lights move through melodic and ambient phases to help children along the trajectory to slumber. After lulling children to sleep, Suzy counts down to a chosen wake up time, helping kids to learn that if Suzy’s not awake, it’s not yet time to get up.

Currently available on Kickstarter for $125, the smartphone-linked device also functions as an audio baby monitor through the secure Suzy Snooze app.

The technology highlights the increased consumer interest in sleep as a vital facet of wellbeing, explored in depth in our Wellbeing Warriors report. The gadget also highlights the evolution of parenthood into a digital affair. For a deeper dive into the ways consumers are turning to apps, devices and networks to aid and chart conception, pregnancy, birth and beyond, see Decoding Digital Parents.
