Montcalm Celebrates British Cuisine

The new five-star Montcalm hotel, located in the former Whitbread brewery Grade II-listed building, has opened its doors in the Barbican, London.

The Montcalm London City at The Brewery will boast 235 rooms and suites, as well as a restaurant and cocktail bar. The hotel has opened 100 rooms to guests during this soft launch period, which runs until September. A further 135 rooms will be opened after the official launch at the end of September. The hotel will also include an executive lounge club, as well as meeting and banqueting rooms.

The ETM Group, run by Tom and Ed Martin – the team behind London restaurants, The Botanist and The Cadogan Arms – will be responsible for the hotel’s food and beverage options. One venue will feature a 20-cover bar, plus a 100-cover restaurant with private dining room serving modern British cuisine. The second venue – a traditional British pub – will focus on real food and wine, featuring an open kitchen with charcoal grill. Both restaurants follow in the footsteps of Marcus Wareing’s Gilbert Scott restaurant at the St. Pancras Renaissance hotel, which opened earlier this year and also champions great British food.

The original building dates back to 1750 and is considered to be Britain’s first purpose-built mass production brewery.
