Rodarte's Moment

The brainchild of sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, US label Rodarte is the name on every fashionista's lips this season, coveted for its gothic-girly, wearable designs. Yesterday, dot.com fashion mecca Net-a-Porter launched Rodarte’s Spring/Summer collection – the only online retailer to stock the line – and it is selling fast.

In addition, luxury store Harvey Nichols, which has stocked the label for many seasons, created a special 1970s-themed installation last week in the London flagship store to celebrate the launch of the S/S 2011 collection, designed by iconic set designer Fiona Leahy.

Reflecting the sisters' memories of their youth in Northern California, where they say they were “surrounded by wooden walls in old houses and redwood forests”, redwood and glass boxes are used to display individual pieces. They are accompanied by a retro-style, six-seater cinema, which projects a short film starring American actress Elle Fanning onto the large wooden walls.
