Virgin Atlantic Launches Signature Red Lipstick

British airline Virgin Atlantic Airways has collaborated with San Francisco-based cosmetics brand bareMinerals to launch a new lip colour this spring. Matched closely to Virgin’s trademark red hue, the aptly named Upper Class Red lipstick marks the launch of the airline’s newly redesigned Upper Class cabins.

Produced with frequent fliers in mind, the lipstick includes micronised freshwater pearl powder that hydrates the lips to alleviate the affects of cabin air pressure that are typically endured over long-haul flights. Taking inspiration from the iconic red Virgin Atlantic uniforms, the company is known for blending fashion and travel with its on-board Runway style magazine and red shoe design named Dorothy – launched in April last year. Australian sister airline Virgin Blue made headlines in February 2011 when Australian model Elle Macpherson took to the catwalk to showcase the airline’s new uniforms.

Female cabin crew will sport the new shade on the inaugural A330 flight from New York to London this spring. The £15 product will be sold at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Spas at Heathrow, Gatwick and JFK, before it is made more widely available at selected bareMinerals stockists later this year. It will also be available on board Virgin Atlantic flights through the airline’s in-flight shopping guide, Retail Therapy.
