Australian athletics analytics company Catapult has launched Playertek – a wearable activity tracker and connected app that enable athletes to monitor their physical performance and movements.
Designed for team sports such as football, the activity tracker is integrated into a compression crop top with a neoprene pocket, back panel and lightweight breathable front panel. Attached is a small pod with an accelerometer, magnetometer and GPS to measure distance, top speed, sprint distance and number of sprints.
The data is automatically sent to the iOS app, where players can look at their performance and compare it to previous practices and matches. They can also examine their position on a heat map, or see how they compare with friends and professional players.
Playertek Team software is also available for coaches for head-to-head player comparisons or analysis of team tactics. Capturing practices and matches, it offers insight into whether training strategies are adequate or need changing to get the team properly prepared.
The Playertek kit, which includes the pod, vest and app, is available for pre-order for around $247, with an expected delivery date of April 30.
