NYFW A/W 13-14: The Row

American twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have made the transition from precocious child stars to respected fashion designers with their luxury label The Row, and a coherent and refined collection for A/W 13-14 seems to have cemented their status.

Fittingly held in an Upper East Side town house, yesterday’s show felt elegant while still being directional, with an emphasis on the finer details. Tunics and coatdresses over ankle-length trousers make for a chic silhouette rooted in the Orient, while jacquards on silk tailoring and capes add a subtle sense of Eastern luxury.

Cocktail-hour pieces were intercepted with wearable casualwear, such as chunky knitwear, languid trousers and classic tailoring. Frill-embellished mule slippers played on the collection’s lady-of-the-manor vibe, while the styling and pieces themselves ensured a thoroughly modern aesthetic.

New York Fashion Week continues until February 14 2013.
