Jil Sander Launches Mobile Phone

German-born fashion design Jil Sander has launched a new smartphone complete with latest Microsoft software and an exclusive social network app with integrated shopping.

Built by electronics giant LG, the elegant black and grey Windows Phone 7 handset with distinctive blue sides, has a 3.8-inch capacitive touch screen and a resolution of 800x480 pixels. A clear extension of Sander’s known minimal styling; the designer claims the phone, “is a proposition of unique design, fusing the brand aesthetic values of modernity, purity and understated luxury with the latest technological innovations”.

Released in Europe last Friday, the handset comes equipped with Windows Phone Mango, the latest update to Microsoft’s mobile platform. The phone also includes an exclusive Jil Sander app, which LG says ‘creates a dynamic interface between users and its seasonal collections, connecting to social media activities ad sharing extra content.’

Its launch underlines the increasing value of electronics as fashion accessories as much as functional devices. Other brands to have launched mobile phones include Cath Kidston and Versace.

The Jil Sander phone retails around €300 and is available in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Austria from the Jill Sander website and other retailers.
