IMG Launch ‘Plus-Sized’ Male Models Division

Zach Miko Brawn model at IMG

International modelling agency IMG Models has announced the launch of a ‘plus-sized’ division for men – the first of its kind in the male model industry. Currently consisting of just one recruit – model Zack Miko, who attracted media attention last year after modelling for US retailer Target’s ‘Big and Tall’ line by Mossimo Supply Co – the move further defines IMG’s reputation as an agency with a progressive agenda.

The agency is already known for encouraging diverse and inclusive casting, having signed trans model/actress Hari Nef, plus-sized Sports Illustrated cover girl Ashley Graham, and wheel-chair user and blogger/model Jillian Marcado. Ivan Bart, president at IMG Models, said that he hoped the launch of this new division – called Brawn – would incentivise fashion brands to start producing larger sizes for the average man.

The launch highlights a shift in consumer attitudes towards ‘healthy’ body image, the lack of fashion options currently available to the ‘plus-sized’ man, and the language used to market such product. We’ll be exploring these themes further in Size Matters: Inclusivity & The ‘Plus-Sized’ Opportunity as part of our in-depth analysis of a fast-evolving fashion landscape.
