Garoa: Monumental Retail

Garoa fashion boutique in Sao Paulo, Brazil has invoked a heightened sense of intrigue courtesy of its unusual store-front: a striking black façade broken only by a single, narrow horizontal window.

Located on a street corner with one-way traffic, Una Architects have designed the exterior so that drivers approaching the store will see its monumental sidewall first - and consequently be curious enough to later venture in store.

The façade also emphasises the contrast of the adjacent window display and bright interior space, which is painted in silver car paint to reflect the light.

A small patio area between the entrance to the store and the pavement adds another idiosyncratic layer to the store design - countered only by a single Brazilian Pau Ferro tree, which stands serenely in the centre of the store.
