The 26th edition of street and denim show Bread & Butter Berlin (BBB) took place against the backdrop of continuing market uncertainty. While visitors were out in force – with an increase of 3.5% year on year – a sense of conservatism pervaded. New tactics to lure customers buying fewer but higher quality garments were on show, while it has become evident that streetwear and denim are not immune to the ups and downs of mainstream fashion. Innovation and experimentation were, in the main, confined to directional collaborations with smaller niche brands, while heritage stories once again dominated brand narratives. Stylus explores a market in the process of evolution.
