John Lewis Embraces Airbnb

AirBnb and John Lewis Partnership

British department store John Lewis has tapped into the sharing economy by partnering with peer-to-peer accommodation website Airbnb, offering potential Airbnb hosts the chance to attend a series of informative masterclasses. Promising to teach everyday consumers how to be the ‘perfect host’, the hour-long sessions covered home styling, customer service and marketing. Tutorials took place at the retailer’s Oxford Street store in central London as well as at its Birmingham outpost.

This isn’t the first time a retailer has seen the commercial opportunity of linking up with hospitality brands. Room service initiatives, for example, have become perfect ways for brands to upsell products to keen and captive audiences. For more, see Rebooting Room Service.
