Christmas 2015 Confirmation: Illusion

Our Christmas 2015 Design Direction Illusion is defined by reflective light play for a dramatic and atmospheric aesthetic. Here, we identify how this ethereal direction has reached the market, highlighting the wide range of inspirational seasonal accessories and décor available this year.

  • Pale shimmering neutrals and mysterious night-sky hues underpin this palette for a dreamlike feel. Frosted surfaces and milky iridescent finishes add semi-transparency to surfaces for unexpected and curious effects.
  • Decorations feature organic motifs in combination with synthetic finishes, highlighting the blend of artifice and nature in this direction. Tangled metallic twigs offer contemporary wreaths, while tactile glass surfaces imitate the look of water droplets.
  • Light and reflection play a key role in evoking a sense of wonder. Soft metallic sheens appear alongside highly polished chrome for subtle light play. Linear neon lighting creates a more graphic look – particularly appropriate for striking retail installations.

Look to our Symbol blog post for further visual confirmations of our other Christmas 2015 Design Directions – the third, Funland, will publish later this week. For more from the current season, see our Holiday Pop-Ups and Digital Christmas reports.

Forward-looking festive inspiration can be found in our Christmas 2016 Design Directions – Ornate, Stellar and Wonderland.
