Air New Zealand’s Economy Skycouch

Air New Zealand’s new Economy Skycouch gives economy passengers a more comfortable flying experience by converting three traditional economy seats into an inflight couch.

The seats convert into a flat couch when the arm and leg rests are folded up. The Skycouch is ideal for couples – who can buy a third seat at a discounted rate – and people travelling with children.

Skycouch is now available on Air New Zealand planes flying between Auckland, Los Angeles and London. It offers a more affordable alternative for those looking to fly with an element of luxury in economy, rather than booking business or first-class tickets. Whether the scheme will prove popular remains to be seen. However, it is likely to help the airline generate additional revenue from potentially empty, loss-making seats.
