Simple – an American, design-focused banking alternative – is striving to be a bank that’s not a bank, by aiming to “help you better understand your personal finances so that you can actually accomplish your goals”.

Features which make the start-up feel more human than the average bank include fully searchable transaction histories, a single card to manage all of your accounts, a mobile app that graphically shows where your money is going, and a ‘Safe to Spend’ function that calculates whether you really can afford that fancy dinner out tonight.

To achieve this, Simple has partnered with chartered banks to take care of customers’ money, leaving Simple free to take care of the customers. They can communicate directly with its customer relations teams using mobile and web apps.
